Library Rules and Regulations


  • Library membership card is compulsory while issuing books for home reading. It is not transferable.
  • Books once issued will not be allowed to keep inside the library.
  • Guidelines for photocopying should be followed.
  • Students are not allowed in the library without membership cards
  • Strict silence should be maintained inside the library.
  • Carrying of food articles are strictly prohibited in the library. Mobile phones must be switched off before entering the library.
  • Any damage or loss of book should be replaced within a week by a new one or as per rule with prior intimation to the Librarian in advance.
  • No project/ laboratory works, group discussions or any kind of class meetings would be allowed inside the library without prior permission from the authority.
  • Loss of library/Identity card must be reported to the Librarian immediately. For a duplicate card, all supporting documents regarding its loss should be submitted to the Administration.
  • Reading room facility is available from 10.00 AM- 4.00 PM on all working days except Saturday.
  • Library remains closed on Sundays and Public Holidays only as per WBSCT&VE&SD holiday list.
  • All Teaching, Non-teaching staff members and students can be members of the Library.
  • All teaching staff including Librarian is allowed to lend maximum 4 books from the library. However, holding of books for more than 30 days, renewal is obligatory.
  • The administrative staff members, Faculty members, library staff, Technical assistants are allowed to borrow not more than 4 books at a time for 1 month.
  • Students can borrow maximum four books at a time depending on the availability of the same in the library for 30 days, which can be further renewed for a maximum period of another 30 days.
  • Students can reissue their lending books for maximum two times provided that books have not been on demand by any other members of the library.
  • Overdue charge for the students is Rs. 1.00 per day per book.
  • No Journals/Magazines are issued for home use either to students or any staff.
  • In case of any emergency need special permission is to be taken from the Principal
  • In case of any grievances students can put complaint in the box kept outside the library which will be addressed by the Library Committee.
  • No admission is permitted in Study Room without proper Student Identity Card.
  • Reference books can be used within the library reading room only.
  • Use of Internet is allowed for educational/academic purpose with the permission of the Librarian. The students are not allowed to use any social networking sites, playing games, etc.
  • Deliberate tampering of BARCODE tags will invite penalty up to Rs.500/- and suspension of membership. However, a minimum penalty of Rs. 100/- will be charged for damage of BARCODE tags due to ignorance, subject to the return of book in good condition. In case, if the book is partially damaged, a sum of Rs. 300/- will be collected towards binding charges or alternatively the member can replace the book as per the Library norms. Fixing the penalty and deciding other actions in this regard is at the sole discretion of the Librarian.

Loss of Library Books:

  • In case of loss of Library book, the latest edition of the lost book is to be replaced to the library.
  • Decision on out of print books will be taken by the Library Committee.
  • Borrowed books must be returned immediately after completion of the semester examinations. No Mark sheet will be issued unless library clearance is issued by the library staff.

***The library rules framed above are subject to change from time to time as when Library Committee deems it necessary to reframe the same.
